APW - Illinois, Sangamo Special, marked 60 Hour, 23J, 17S, white gold-filled OF original Sangamo Special case with initials to rear, Montgomery white enamel DS heavy Gothic numeral 17S dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, raised gold jewel settings, gold train, broad transverse band pattern nickel damascene, s#4758821. An excellent example of this top grade railroad watch, the total production of the marked 60 hour Sangamo Special was 2200 made per Michael Chamelin's "Sangamo Special - Beginning to End" book.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with few small micro-fine scratches, fine scratches to larger winding wheel hub and mirrored recess, few specks of oxide to click and adjacent plate screw, small scratches within plate recess for click; dial with very small fractures to right perimeter of seconds-register and minuscule associated surface flake, few micro-fine scratches within seconds-register; excellent-plus hands; case shows hardly any wear, few tiny nicks to band, no dents, excellent engraving detail; tight bow with some small bits of brass at its high corners and to its underside, crown shows little wear; clean plastic crystal.
